Learn about and celebrate the Ukrainian American immigrant story in southeast Michigan. This exhibit is aligned with the America250MI guiding themes of “Power of Place, We the People, and Doing History,” and is directly inspired by the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence as a moment to reflect on whose stories are included in the American narrative and how those stories are preserved for future generations.
Founded in 1958 and incorporated as a nonprofit in 1968, the Ukrainian American Archives and Museum has decades of experience preserving and interpreting immigrant history in Michigan. UAAM’s collections include fine art, traditional Ukrainian embroideries, ritual clothing, folk dress, woodcarvings, pysanky, oral histories, photographs, memoirs, organizational records, audiovisual media, and more than 30,000 books.
